'We were surrounded by seven fires'

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     bpattersd told me, 'We watched the San Marcos fire from the beginning and have seen spot fires start up intermittently. We're approximately three miles from the blaze so we're safe, we're on the outskirts of the evacuation zone and didn't feel the need to evacuate. For most of yesterday, we were surrounded by seven fires. The most important thing is that without the DC-10 this would be another story. Two flyovers last night combined with the dying of the Santa Ana winds to turn the corner from out of control to manageable. Amazing.'
