A Day in the Life with Chart Topping Russian Pop Star, Grace Valerie
As the sun came up across town on Sunset Boulevard, Grace Valerie beamed on the legendary Hollywood strip. Meeting the Russian princess in a local eatery for brunch was just as casual as any day in Tinsel Town but as the blond bombshell entered Kitchen 24 she had patrons instantly questioning who she was. With a successful career on the rise, Grace has delivered chart topping music internationally and has fans ready for more. Steadily appearing on Billboard slots under the teen sensation “One Direction”, Grace is ready to smash record sales and deliver her sultry dance moves to yearning fans across the country. With a determined focus on her career, I followed the Los Angeles native as she primped and prepped for press, last night's show and her anticipated album.
Grace Valerie is as beautiful as a Mattel Barbie and as Americanized as any sun kissed California native but adding her natural talent to the mix solidifies her placement in our iconic pop culture. Born in Russia, the songstress has created a name for herself years before her American introduction. At the age of 15 she debut her first single in Moscow steadily increasing her fan base since. Now in Hollywood she dedicates her time to perfecting her craft. As I followed the rising star, I witnessed first-hand the work that goes into becoming the next pop sensation and the effort to keep her name afloat in an industry flooded with talent.
Regardless of what television portrays, it takes a team to make anyone successful and Ms. Valerie has employed the best to help her transition. Early afternoon appointments for manicures at the elite Laque Nail Salon was our first stop. Welcomed with champagne upon arrival, we met with Enspire Magazine’s Tiffany Rashel and celebrity photographer Zarian Hadley for a casual photo shoot and interview. Pampered with a gel manicure was a mandatory request and much needed break for the driven songbird. Recently launching her single, “Not for Love”, and working with top producers likr Busby (P!nk, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, etc) has the 23 year old’s work ethic in overdrive. Minutes to the hour we whisked off onto the freeway and straight up the stairs of the acclaimed International Dance Academy in Hollywood. There Grace rehearsed for her May 20th performance at the popular nightclub, “OHM”. Her dancers displayed perfection hitting each move with fierce passion and unison. Her choreographer, Riquel Olander, who is celebrated as part of the only female dance crew to win on the popular MTV show, “America’s Best Dance Crew”, guided Grace throughout the rehearsal. Again, I emphasize, the team behind “Team Grace” is not to be mistaken for anything less than the best. What else would you expect from a Pop star who was discovered by the multi-talented producer, Randy Jackson?
Investing in her craft is just part of the strategy to take her career to the top of the charts. With her ace publicist by her side, Anne Edmond, founder of CRAFT Agency, she has been strategically placing Grace on elite media outlets and planned an extensive two day press run. From nails, to dance and a quick bite in between, Grace was scooted home for a quick change and off for more. Scheduled to meet with the west coast dynamic dual and power couple, Grace elegantly sat across from Pauly & Monks as they cleverly played fashion games, sang jingles and most importantly intergraded the “GV” nickname repeatedly for their listeners. Grace, who has a large following in the LGBT community, announced she would be performing in the San Diego Pride events alongside Pauly & Monks, thus creating pandemonium with the couple. Despite cultural differences, Grace stands firm on her opinion of equality and love generating a lot of love from her fans. Wrapping up day one, the blonde sensation was amped and ready for more.
The following day, Grace flawless in her hot pink baby doll dress and oh-so clever eyeglass inspired necklace, #contemplated over her collection of nude stilettos. With a sudden smirk, #PopStarProblems came to mind. Off to Malibu for more interviews and back in time for Skype meetings with Lucky magazine and calls with local radio stations, never a dull moment on the road to success. Also leaking information of an upcoming Red lipstick line had interviews intrigued; the young fashionista has more than music up her sleeve.Managing to satisfy a simple journalist’s expectations of Hollywood, Grace graciously offered to help tour me around the city filled with celebrities, dreams and ambitions of rising stars.
Reminiscing of her own journey, Grace spoke of her days in Moscow and how her family originally denied her a chance to pursue adolescent desires of becoming a singer. “They wanted me to go to school. So I did, but never gave up on me. I went to the university then straight to vocal classes. I refused to give in.” Gifting her parents the honor of watching her graduate; she then took her career into her own hands and hustled her way to the top of Russian radio. Her family recognized her determination and immediately jumped in as her core support system, helping make her dream a reality. As the reigning VJ of Moscow, a family friend helped influence her parents to allow Grace to broaden her horizons. Recruited by American Idol’s former judge, Randy Jackson, he immediately took her under his wing and committed to her career as the next American Pop Princess.
Grueling hours, quick meals and lots of natural energy summed up my trip to sunny California. Grace Valerie offers more than a pretty face and angelic voice; she delivers hope for international dreamers. Regardless of what her parents said, the views of her culture or the reputation of Hollywood idealists, Grace single handedly took her talents to the streets and proved that anything is possible. Believing in herself and her talent had me sitting in a Hollywood penthouse sipping on Moet celebrating the success of another dream come true. Cheers to the visionaries, believers, go-getters and most importantly, ambitious people who push the barrier allowing others to join in their success.
