Christian Activists Arrested Trying to Keep Homeless out of the Rain

After a 24 hour stand off with the City of New Haven, activists Mark Colville and Greg Williams from the Amistad Catholic Worker House were arrested for erecting a tent city in a community garden which The Catholic Worker maintained. The city claims that since the community garden is city owned property, the Catholic Worker did not have the right to build a tent city. The tents were bulldozed at approximately 4:20pm today and Colville and Williams were arrested for trespassing. Protesters went to city hall to complain about the arrests and the plight of people experiencing homelessness. All of this has occurred after the emergency overflow shelter was shut down last week.
