    'The fire spread rapidly'

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     wasitover was at work on May 14 in Carlsbad, California, when a wildfire broke out in the area. He says the fire, which began near the Palomar Airport Road, spread quickly throughout the area. He captured photos of the smoke from his office’s parking lot and took some photos from his neighbor’s property. Living through several wildfires in California, he says he was calm throughout the experience, even though some of his neighbor’s lost their homes due to the flames. He was evacuated from the area earlier in the week, but as far as he can tell his home survived the wildfires that ripped through his neighborhood.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

We were evacuated from work office in Carlsbad on Wednesday May 14th when the fires first started. By the time we made it home to Coronado Hills, that area was evacuated too. The work the fire fighters do is tireless, brave and the ultimate expression of community. Although many homes were lost, everyone owes these men and women a debt of gratitude.

The first few photos are the beginning of the Carlsbad fire followed by photos of the Coco's fire as it began to consume Coronado Hills. Last photo is Cal State San Marcos surrounded by the burn.
