Scenes from the Indian elections 2014

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     meeravijayan photographed her neighborhood of Bangalore, India, after India's 2014 election results were announced on May 16. She says there were so many people who were ecstatic about Narendra Modi, the leader of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), winning the elections. 'It was also interesting to note that there was a huge divide in opinion about the party coming to power specifically because of the controversies that surround Narendra Modi. While a lot of people seemed disillusioned with the Congress and looked forward to change, it was also clear that this time a lot of people felt like they had little choice,' she said.

On May 16th, after the landslide win for the right-wing BJP party across several states, there were celebrations held through the day in smaller party offices. I watched this crowd dance their way down 100 ft road in Indiranagar, Bangalore, where I live and work.
