    San Diego Firestorm 2014 Aftermath

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Photographer and unmanned aerial vehicle hobbyist Dale Porter captured aerial footage of the aftermath of the wildfires in San Marcos and Carlsbad, California, this weekend. Porter mounted a Canon G30 and later a GoPro camera to a quadcopter to film these scenes.

Near the end of the video, there is a message in chalk thanking firefighters, as seen from above. “This fire burned to the edge of this neighborhood, so neighborhood children made it,” Porter explained of the drawing in San Marcos. “Two firemen were on standby at the cul-de-sac so I asked them to step into the picture.”

This video tour shows San Marcos after the fires from the ground and from an aerial drone, and signs posted by residents to thank the firefighters.
