100,000 SIGNATURES FOR PEACE IN EAST VIETNAM SEA

    Press release

MESSAGE OF PEACE FOR THE EAST VIETNAM SEA (SOUTH CHINA SEA OR WEST PHILIPINO SEA)

    Hanoi, May 15th, 2014.

A Vietnamese peace initiative - PEACE FOR EAST VIETNAM SEA - has gathered more than 15,000 signatures in one weeks and is aiming to reach 100,000 - by reaching out to people in Vietnam, Asia and around the world.

In the spirit of peace - solidarity towards the future, we would like to send the world the message from the people of Vietnam, “Together we KEEP THE PEACE in the East Vietnam Sea (South China Sea or West Philipino sea) and ASEAN; We request the Chinese government stop their expansion in the East Vietnam, and to take the Hai Yang 981 oil rig out of the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf of Vietnam."
The goal is to attract domestic and international attention, to send to our international friends the message of peace from Vietnam, and to convey this message to embassies, non-governmental organisations, domestic and international press.

The petition is at http://peaceforeastsea.com and http://hoabinhchobiendong.com. It is available in Vietnamese, English, Chinese, French and Japanese. The petition was launched by a group of young Vietnamese intellectuals after 05.02.2014. It has won the support of the Vice Chairman of the Union of Friendship Organizations, Hanoi and Hanoi Peace Committee

Ms. Vu Thi Hai , Vice Chair of the Union of Friendship Organizations, Hanoi and Hanoi Peace Committee said: "The desire of the international community through contributions to add a voice, sent a message of peace for the people of the East Vietnam Sea from Vietnam as well as communities all over the world. In the context of escalating violence in the East Vietnam Sea and to prevent the risk of war, we hope this will be an effective way for Vietnam to win the backing of the world by way of non-violent struggle". The message will be updated regularly and the number of signatures sent to Vietnam Peace Committee and the Committee of World Peace.
