    Thai military declares coup

    Quiet in Issan this morning

I'm an American retiree living in Udon Thani. This is "red shirt" territory. Things were very quiet here last night with the 10PM curfew in effect. Military checkpoints are located throughout the city. Schools are closed for the next 3 days, further reducing normal traffic. My wife and I operate a small western style restaurant and pub. We had a group of New Zealanders in here last night and the mood was upbeat with no one feeling any real fear for their safety.
