Thai military declares coup
Snakes scarier than Thai military coup
- Wilfred Chan, CNN producer
Life for expats living in Bangkok is pretty much the same. The yellow shirts protested in the tourist areas and the military has taken over the area where the yellow shirts were originally. My wife is a British school teacher working in a major international school and all the international schools, in Bangkok, are running as normal. Many school teachers have young children and in the event of a civil war the British embassy would inform the schools to shut down immediately and tell their citizens to leave the country. The international schools always take the advice of their embassies.
For Thai people living in Bangna, Bearing, Udom Suk, life continues as normal. The Thai military has taken over the tourist areas because the last thing they want is a civil war. The sooner the politicians get their heads together and sort something out the better it will be for ordinary Thai citizens who only want a better future for their children; education and a meal on the table. For me personally, at this present moment, I only worry about bumping into a monitor lizard or a python when the sun goes down as they do live in the area naturally.
