    South African Small Businesses Must Be On The Internet To Survive

    South Africa has a high rate of unemployment, which has prompted many South Africans to start their own businesses. If you are working for yourself, you know that running a business, regardless of what business you are in, is hard work in South Africa. You have to fight to get the work because you are competing with the big boys who have huge advertising budgets. You can't compete with them, because they have really deep pockets.

    You may not agree but the problem was best described by an extremely wealthy man years ago. To paraphrase Microsoft founder Bill Gates 'if you not doing business on line you are not doing business'.

    I remember when I heard that I thought he was just another overly zealous highly motivated IT salesperson who wanted to sell his own software and products.

    To be successful on line your marketing campaign must be the driving force of your on line presence so that the correct message is put out on the Internet.

    It is of paramount importance to have a professional business website which is designed to do one specific job.

    Permit me to include a word of caution. It is important to remember that this is not a project for someone who is a student who does not understand marketing and advertising. This was a massive mistake made by many when they put up their business websites.

    Little wonder 95% of websites make no money on line.

    Your website is the first contact people make with your business on the Internet. It needs to be as professional as you are. It needs to portray your business correctly. When you meet someone casually and they say they are interested in your kind of business, you hand them your business card and try to get their contact info. This is how you should consider your website. Is it making the contact and requesting info?

    If not ... you are working hard at losing customers.

    Find Your Business On Google
    Thanks to the Cell phone revolution many people are searching the Internet for your kind of business every day. They are searching for your kind of business on their computers, cell phones and ipads.

    Google is the biggest search engine on the Internet today. Your business needs to be on Google for you not to lose out on business.

    Google has many facets. All of which must be utilized correctly by someone who knows what they are, and how to use them. If all you did correctly is Google, you will have many leads coming into your business.

    Caution: If you are getting this done for peanuts you are getting ripped off.

    This should be working like a salesperson for your business. It must bring leads into your business so you can work at making them customers.

    Put Your Business On Facebook
    Have you noticed how many people are connecting on social networks like Facebook? Everyone, whose anyone, is on social networks. They are connected to hundreds, sometimes thousands of friends and associates. In marketing terms this would be called your circle of influence. These are people who talk to each other about every topic imaginable.

    If someone is your friend on Facebook you can send them a private message which works a lot like sms messages. You can also post a message on your Facebook page and you can tag people in it so the message is displayed on both your page and theirs. This is very powerful.

    This is a great way to announce new products and services.
