PFF Peasants Wing Sanghar: new contract between Haris, landlords urged
A peasants' meeting on Saturday called a new contract between sharecroppers and landlords to avoid conflicts within the natural partners, which recently has caused uncertainty and chaos due to exploitation. The event was organised by Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) Peasants Wing Sanghar with the purpose to bring all the stakeholders, including elected parliamentarians, district administration, civil society campaigners and the community to sit together and find solution.
Shehnaz Sheedi of South Asia Partnership (SAP) Pakistan in her speech suggested the government and campaigners to launch a move to have a new contract between the landlords and Haris to resolve their issues, which were affecting the poor. This new contract should cover education to Haris' children and health cover to entire families and clearly define wages for women workforce. The copies of this agreement should be available to relevant tribunals, courts, revenue offices and other departments to ensure the implementation of the set of agreement.
