This iReport is part of an assignment:
Responsible GUN OWNERS want to know;
How is it that someone who has been seeing therapists since he was 8, sometimes two at a time, and was evaluated by police officers called to his home for disturbing actions able to pass every federal background check required to obtain guns?
Of course anyone paying attention knows that he used
knives, guns and his car as a weapon....But here I'm just addressing the gun angle.
As everyone that knows me is aware,
I'm the strongest supporter of the 2nd Amendment you'll find but there are many aspects of this story that show somebody, some group, or some policy could have easily prevented the tragic shooting in California.
Here are some statements of fact.
1.) No law of any type can control or correct mental health.
2.) It does no good to pass new laws if you don't enforce the laws on the books.
3.) We should not diminish the rights of law abiding citizens by setting and basing policy on those residing outside the vast majority of common protocol in both character and action. (Ok..well, # 3 is opinion but you get the point)
