Funny River Fire 5/25
The Funny River fire has consumed approximately 156,000 acres in the Kenai Wildlife Refuge in Soldotna, Alaska. It presently threatens communities from Kasilof, Funny River Road and Sterling with tall, erratic flames and flying embers taking flight in winds ranging from 6 to 30mph.
An evacuation occurred on Funny River Road where several houses are threatened and a secondary evacuation occurred at Skilak Lake Campground. The other two communities have sections under an evacuation readiness advisory.
A complete ban on all flames has been instituted across the Peninsula in light of the fire and extremely dry conditions. With resources spread thin to handle the wildfire, rain is the most prevalent thing on everyone's minds. In the meantime, the wildfire and first responders have done an incredible job keeping the communities safe and well informed of what is happening.
This photograph is the product of the smoke and haze which is visible as far as Wasilla, Alaska.
