Kamloops Self Storage Challenges Cyclist to adopt Shared Storage Space for their Bikes
You’ve often heard of roommates sharing a condo to cut cost, but have you ever considered that maybe getting a roomy for your bicycle might be as beneficial?
Kamloops SelfStorAll, one of Kamloops largest self storage facilities has created an innovative shared locker space for cyclists. Owner Paul Reynolds explained that “We learned that a cycling group in Eastern Canada had rented a mini storage unit together. They charge each member a small yearly membership fee and it more than covers the cost of the unit that they share.”
Every few days, this group meets at the self storage unit, warm up a little together, don helmets and fill water bottles, and head out for a long ride. On weekends they usually do a century ride — 100 miles. Afterwards the expensive bikes are safe and secure back in their local self storage facility.
This inspired Kamloops SelfStorAll to design a bike locker to be shared by many bikers. A local blacksmith was engaged to design and create secure racks inside a large self storage unit. “We are close to downtown,” explained Reynolds “and many condo dwellers have no place to securely store expensive racing and cross country cycles.” For a very low monthly fee a bicycle owner has their own rack inside a modified locker.
SelfStorAll is marketing this concept these through local bike stores like Spoke Bike & Ski, the Bicycle Cafe and Taboo Cycles. SelfStorAll also welcomes members of Kamloops Bike Riders Association to adopt this shared approach to “find roommates for their bikes.”
