Unexpected surprise from Camelopardalid meteor shower.

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     greghogan took his 6-year-old son, two nephews and father-in-law camping in Perry, Georgia, to watch the Camelopardalid meteor shower on Friday, May 23. "We stayed up all night for the event," he said.

Camelopardalids turned out to be a let down, greghogan says. And he's not alone, as CNN reported that responses to the cosmic event on social media stated that it was a dud in some places. But in greghogan's time lapse exposure of the sky during the media shower, he got an unexpected surprise: Thousands of fireflies.

"[The fireflies] made us laugh because we joked how they put on a better show than the Camelopardalid meteor shower," he said.

This is the North Star and fireflies! I had an unexpected surprise while awaiting for the Camelopardalids. There was 1000's of lightning bugs in my shots. This time lapse of the night shows them all through my images. Even though the Camelopardalids was a little bit of a let down, this was a nice surprise from the night.
