    Tell us the Good Stuff!

    More from BQueen1

    A slice of Americana..Brooklyn, Ave. Z..

With the start of the season, which is Memorial Day in Coney Island, native resident Rico decks out the house he grew up in with flags, and lights and lighthouses, and everything American. He likes it that way. He starts putting up the flags on Memorial day and keeps up all the decorations until Labor day, the end of the season. In fact he invited my friend Dave and I to a barbecue cook-out for the 4th where he said he lights up the block and everyone loves it. Can't wait to go.
Also Rico owns Rico's Custom Auto body shop on Hart place with his father and they restore old cars (see the Edsel). I did a previous report about him, called "Classics! Brooklyn strong." Because he is kind of a classic young guy.
He also makes the Mermaid Float for the annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade in June and is presently in the process of restoring and decorating an old farm tractor to carry the mermaids.
I love his house and property because it is not something you usually see in busy urban Brooklyn. It is a refreshing slice of Americana and more like going to the country.
He told me he would like to buy the whole block, one day, and treat everyone with respect. I know he will and I hope he does!
The next to last photo is his neighbor next door who has a big oil painting of an American flag on the fence that is kept up all year. It's in the right place.
    Thank you.
