    In Memoriam

My Mentor, My Friend, My Boss, My Maya

For over 7 years now I have been BLESSED to work all over the country with one of the most respected people not only in entertainment, but in politics, in civil rights , in human rights & in education! Dr. Maya Angelou has been a mentor, a sholder to cry on, & a firm hand, but most of all she has been a friend to me. Before on of her presentations she granted me this opportunity to ask her a few special questions on camera and this video is just that. Since day 1 of Broadway In The Hood Dr. Angelou has been my rock, every time I wanna throw in the towel she encourages me to keep moving forward. I spoke with her just the other day because we had a few date coming up next week… We laugh, and we spoke about a few personal things… I told her how much she meant to me and to the world… she said "Not half as much as you and the world means to me." WOW…. Lord, I THANK YOU… for allowing little old me, to spend countless hours with a true "Human Being"!!!
I remember last year, I had a huge decision to make about the future of Broadway In The Hood… and Dr. got very serious, and she said… "Mr. Russell, This is BIGGER then you, what you all are doing has been ordained to change the world." She grabbed my hand and she began to sing to me
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder, You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger, May you never take one single breath for granted,
GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed, I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean, Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance. I hope you dance....I hope you dance!
My prayer is that… you will be inspired as I have over the past 7 years!
Oh, the stories, the memories, the love and the legacy…. My Dr. Maya Angelou :-)
