I am heartbroken today after hearing about the passing of Maya Angelou. Her life, words, wisdom and humor were introduced to me as a teenager and I instantly fell in love. When I was pregnant with my first child I was privileged enough to hear her speak. I left feeling different and confident that this unborn spirit inside me had been given a special blessing. As if Maya herself had placed her hands upon my belly sending strength and resilience to my child. 6 months ago I lost my dear mother after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. During some of her darkest days we would sit and read Phenomenal Woman together. It reminded us both that even with this cancer that was attaching the very essence of what allowed my mother to carry a child and physically made her a women, we are so blessed to be just that. Phenomenal Women. I now am the mother of three young girls. Today I make a promise to my mom, my grandmothers, Maya and myself to carry on her words and teach my daughters how lucky they are to be Phenomenal Women. I know that somewhere in Heaven today my mother has found Maya and they are indeed sharing a wonderful cup of tea smiling at all of the amazing memories they helped create for so many of us. Cheers to you ladies.
