    How efficient is energy efficient?

How efficient is energy efficient? I remember when I was a child doing laundry. I remember the drier taking 40 to 45 minutes to dry all the clothes. Now the energy efficient optimum setting is about 1.5 hours long (The times are displayed in the pictures). I stopped the laundry and checked for dryness at 10:18 am. At 10:18 am the clothes were dry. I closed the dryer door and continued the drying cycle until drier shut off automatically. The drier continued until 10:44am. How is that energy efficient to continue to dry for another 26 minutes?
