    Matthews Woman’s Club Service League Grants $7,500 to Matthews, NC Non-profits

     
    The Matthews Woman’s Club Service League (MWCSL) granted $7,500 to fourteen Matthews, NC-area non-profit agencies and community service organizations at the April 10, 2014 club meeting. Funds were generated throughout the past year through a number of fund raising activities including the Victorian Teas that were held in December 2013.

    Grant awards were presented to the following organizations: American Legion Post 235, Art Box Kids, Blessed Assurance Adult Day Care, Bright Blessings, C. O. S. Kids, Matthews Fire Department, Habitat for Humanity, Hawk-Matthews Naturally, Levine Senior Center, Matthews Free Medical Clinic, Matthews Help Center, Matthews Playhouse, Matthews Police DARE and Thompson Child and Family Focus.

    “Matthews Woman’s Club Service League was thrilled to disperse a total of $7,500 in grants to organizations in our community”, said Joanne McMurtrie, Club President. “Thank you to all in our community who support the MWCSL’s annual Victorian Teas which allow us to fulfill our mission of offering financial support to other non-profit organizations in Matthews.”

    The Matthews Woman's Club Service League is located at 208 South Trade Street in downtown Matthews, North Carolina. The historic building was built in the 1940's for the American Legion and the clubhouse was donated to The Matthews Woman's Club in the early 1970's. The Matthews Woman’s Club Service League began in 1988 and was formed as an offshoot from The Matthews Woman's Club. From humble beginnings, it grew into an organization that gives back to the Matthews community with time, talent, and service. There are currently more than sixty members who live in Matthews and the surrounding area. The Town of Matthews has a population of over 28,000 residents and is in the suburban Charlotte, NC metro area.

    The focus of the organization is on service to the Matthews, NC community. It supports and enhances the community through fundraisers and service projects. Funds raised through these projects are dispersed to local non-profit and community service organizations. Local non-profit organizations are supported with hands-on assistance, attendance at events, promotions of events and generally by lending a hand where it is needed.
