    Rhino at the waterhole

Camped out by a waterhole in a South African game park, one can observe a multitude of animals quench their thirst. On a hot summer day, my wife and I watched springbok, a group of kudu, warthogs, and others come and go. As the day wore on, a troupe of elephants refreshed themselves, followed by a shy, lone white rhinoceros. He was so tentative that we weren't sure he would actually make it to the water -- every click of the camera or whisper would cause hesitation. After about twenty minutes of waiting, we were able to capture this shot just as his lips broke the surface of the water.
