    Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     kisan218 and his wife stayed right outside the gates of the park when they visited in May, and camped out at the gates two hours before sunrise to make sure they could reach the dunes in the perfect light.
    - dsashin, CNN iReport producer

Completely otherworldly, a visit to Sossusvlei in the Namib-Naukluft National Park transports you to a landscape of giant red sand dunes and dry pans. Getting up before dawn, my wife and I were able to watch the sun rise over the red sand, creating beautifully stark color contrasts.

These photos are of Big Daddy, considered by some to be the highest sand dune in the world. Right next to this dune is Deadvlei, a clay pan with ancient acacia trees that makes you feel like you've been whisked off to a Western frontier in outer space.
