    The Mix of Love

We are a very diverse family. My husband is black and my son is half black and I am Caucasian. My family on my side consists of every nationality there is in the world. We have Native American, German, Hungarian, Italian, Puerto Rican, African American, Dominican, Korean etc. On my husband’s side we have African American; Jamaican and Caucasian. The best part of being in such a diverse world growing up is being able to connect as we all are now. We don't see color, we don't see race, we don't see creed. We see family and a human race of love and togetherness. Sure we've all experienced difficulties being one identity or another. But we as a family do not let those menial differences guide us and change us in any way. Interconnected in acceptance and love is what makes being a part of a biracial relationship simple. Throughout the past 40 years, we all have experienced a great change in our society. We watched other’s not accept who we are or trash talk us and yet it didn’t change our perception of what love and happiness is. Culturally we learn from one another and the mix has done nothing but empowered us to be better people and a stronger more apathetic family. I’m happy to see that my family is so full of life and love and beauty. There is no one color that is the right color especially if the color is love. When I found out that I was pregnant, I was 14. My son in this picture is nearing 27 years of age. My husband and I have loved one another for all of these years. It just took us to the age of 40 to commit in marriage. It wasn't easy raising my son in the beginning. There were many inappropriate and unnecessary comments made. The world now isn't as "racist" as it once was. The world isn't as closed minded as it once was. We will see more change coming in the next 40 years and I'm proud to say that my family; not just my husband, son and I; are a part of a world that is mixing in love.
