STERLACE and DURANGO Bring Home the Gold for the United States at the ISU Adult Figure Skating International Competition in Obersdorf Germany.

Adult skaters age 28 and up came from all over the world to compete for a coveted ISU Adult Figure Skating Competition. Among the many events this week was the coveted championship dance competition. With top placing skaters Shay Sterlace and Yovanny Durango, who once again brought the crowd to their collective feet after their stellar showing in Hyannis Massachusetts in April where they won the Gold. That victory propelled them to the World stage. In Obersdorf they have once again wowed the crowd with their intense artistry and brilliant footwork, to demonstrate command of the sport. To win the gold at the prestigious ISU Adult Figure Skating Competition.

Both admitted they were overcome with emotion and excitement as the scores were announced. Yovanny Durango said, “That they both just submersed themselves into the piece and the moment and did not focus on the outcome.” It worked as the crowd was mesmerized by the level of dramatic emotion the pair brought to the ice. I asked Shay Sterlace what their secret was and she said, “It’s our passion, we focus on the work and bring everything to the ice.” Damian Dodge told me that, “The team has done the work, and they both work so hard and are inspirational to their skating students.” Both Sterlace and Durango are passionate about teaching and maintain a rigorous class schedule on top of practicing several hours a day six days a week to prepare for the world event.

Both Sterlace and Durango have skated their entire lives in various levels and formats. However the team has been skating together for a less than two years coached by Damian Dodge and has worked tirelessly since the team’s inception to prepare for this moment. Working at several different rinks in Pennsylvania and Delaware and driving hours in addition to the intense practice required to get the ice time they felt was required to bring their best to Obersdorf. Coach Damien Dodge could not be prouder of his friends and students,
” They have both worked so hard to get to this moment, and we look forward to celebrating this huge accomplishment with our entire team. Then it’s back to the states to incite that same inspiration into our students."
