Our story began at a community senior center. A new program had been started there which focused on serving Somali seniors aged 55 and over. I had just returned to the United States from teaching English in Japan for three years. My wife had just moved to the area from Atlanta and had experience working for the Somali community there. As we worked together and got to know one another, we quickly realized that we had found in each other not only a wonderful friend but a partner for life. We were married in 2007 and have had three children, Gabriel, Leyla and Elijah in the time since then. Our family is truly multicultural combining two religions, two cultures and four languages. We now raise our children to embrace both cultures and to celebrate the unique diversity that is present within our community.
