    Flash sand storm over Tehran

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Ali Amiri was in the northern business district of Tehran when a sand storm took him by surprise. The storm was unlike anything he had ever witnessed and it inspired him to snap this photo. Amiri says, "I always look at Tehran and it feels so large but here it seemed to shrink in front of that gathering cloud."

Luckily he was able to wait out the sand storm in a nearby building but said, “You could not really tell if the windows had a beige curtains pulled down or if it was sand outside.” According to Amiri, rain storms are usual for this time of year but this sand storm was out of the ordinary.

Dear CNNi , This is picture of the front of a sudden sand storm that swept over Tehran ( west to east ) approaching the center of the northern business district where I was... at around 5 00 pm local time. 10 minutes later, it was as dark as midnight with some of the heaviest winds I have ever witnessed . No one had ever seen anything like it here. The contrast between the clear sky and the storm's apporach, its scale in front of such a large metropolis...I was simply in awe of nature's might.   Hope you can share with your viewers. All best Ali (Tehran , Iran)
