Cryptolocker Ransomware and ZeuS Threat
The US has charged a Russian man they say was behind a major cybercrime operation which has involved the theft of valuable passwords and information from more than a million individuals individuals and businesses worldwide.
According to the National Crime Agency (NCA) more than 15,000 computers in the UK alone have been hit by the ZeuS malware, which is responsible for stealing hundreds of millions of pounds globally. They operate by scanning infected computers and sniffing out passwords for banks and other financial accounts.
The NCA go on to say that following the arrest it will probably take about two weeks for the criminals to get the botnets up and running again – therefore computer users have around that time to get their computers and other devices scanned, install and update to the latest versions of virus protection.
This is very timely. as just two days ago a new book was published a book on this very subject.
Most people think they can't fix their laptops or other devices. This book has been written in such a way that anyone who has a virus or other infections on their Laptop, Smartphone or Tablet can deal with it, and prevent further such issues occurring.
Anyone - no matter what skill level can do this all using free software and apps.
Tips to help you:
You should block / don't click email attachments which are executable files or ZIP files .EXE and .ZIP unless you can be certain where they came from.
Install up to date antivirus software. Whilst not perfect, antivirus software is still catching a large percentage of malware. Free antivirus software such as Microsoft Security Essentials or AVG Free in most cases are just as good as paid software.
