    Izombe Community Protest

The people of Izombe Community in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State,  Nigeria,  took to the streets, as all the Chiefs, women, youths and children all carried placards and leaves calling for Addax Petroleum, an oil corporation, exploring about 7000 barrels of oil a day in that community, to leave their land for failure to leave up to her corporate social responsibility and help alleviate the abject poverty in the region.

The people of Izombe are poverty-stricken,  25% of her indigenes are blind, 55% have eye defects, 99% are hopeless, and have no basic amenities such as electricity,  pipe-borne water,  good roads, no hospitals,  and cannot even eat their farm produce because it has been contaminated by the oil exploration and gas flaring.

You need to see how these people live, and where they shop, it's so dilapidated,  it's so exasperating,  and it's so incredible that such a community has huge deposits of crude and 7000 barrels of oil is explored daily from Izombe, and yet still suffer like they have nothing. It is really a shocking and sordid site.
