1968 Candy Apple Red VW Beetle
My sweet new husband came home from an overseas leave for a couple of weeks. One agenda was to purchase a suitable car for me to drive after he went back When he left for his over seas 18 month tour he left me with his 1964 white Impala Chevy. I knew what I wanted and it had to a 1960 something VW Beetle, preferably a red one.
Needless to say we managed to find just what I was looking for. With gas being twenty-six cents a gallon, I could go forever on $3.00. It did take me a while to get used to the straight shift. I will never forget the first time I drove to work at the local hospital, having go up this long very steep hill with a red light....I am glad to say I conquered that hill and smiled every day I traveled it.
Oh how I loved that car and so wish I still had it today.
I thought I was pretty kool with my red white and blue peace sign on the back window.
When the' youngins' started coming the VW had to go.
