This iReport is part of an assignment:
My dog inspired my startup venture
Her mishap with a vet, who I found through a regular online search was heart wrenching. The vet wrongly diagnosed her, operated on her, and her health still continued to deteriorate. Not after I finally decided to ask my friend for a referral did she get the help she needed, and was nursed back to health.
The sad thing about my experience is that many people looking for service professional choose online searches over asking friends and family. These professionals may not have been vetted, and studies have shown that trusted referrals from friends and family are the number one means of successful recommendations. So I developed a web and app based platform that has streamlined the referral process, making it effective to request and share information for service professionals conveniently and easy. It is just like giving traditional referral sharing facelift.
It was challenging to start such a business, but I did not want what happened to me to happen to anybody else. I was driven to gather a stellar team, a COO, CTO who both shared my vision. We worked continuously with limited funds, long hours, lots of revisions and we finally launched goldenslate.com last week. We are extremely proud of the caliber of the website and the app. People have already taken an affinity to it, to find their next service professional.
Service professionals are also signing up because of the efficiency of our app in finding and building relationships with clients. It is the perfect referral tool for the busy service professional who want to connect on the go. With the advancement of technology and social media, connecting and maintaining an online profile has never been that easy.
Now it is easier to find a trusted babysitter, lawyer, accountant, dentist, piano teacher, real estate agent and more, all through our referral system.
I often think of my humble beginnings in India, and appreciate how my reach for the American dream has met its challenges, but has renewed my faith in hard work, perseverance and motivation to make an existing product better. I am very pleased with our goldenslate.com product as well as our interactive app on the Apple operating system, and I can’t wait when we become a household name in helping with the sharing of referrals.
