    NY2SY Transatlantic Solo Row

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     markfallows, runs a small advertising agency in New York City and connected with former Gaelic TV host Niall Iain MacDonald through a friend from Scotland. Macdonald set off Thursday, June 5, from Jersey City, New Jersey, on what he expects to be a solo journey, involving rowing for 12 hours, each day for three months, to raise money for the Scottish Association for Mental Health.

MacDonald, who battled chronic depression himself, is using this personal challenge to raise national awareness of a condition that is often casually dismissed in Scottish society, Fallows said. According to MacDonald's website, only 10 people have successfully rowed alone from West to East across the North Atlantic and no one has ever completed this particular route.

One man, one small rowing boat, 3400 miles of Noth Atlantic ocean isolation and hazards lie ahead.
