This iReport is part of an assignment:
Travel photo of the day
And if you are a runner with a photography bug, it is the perfect getaway from your mundane everyday life.
I headed to Mukteshwar, a small town nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, for a Half Marathon to be run at 7500 feet above the sea level.
I had run 30 milers in the past, but never had done a race at that altitude.
Mukteshwar, as it turned out, was not only a vertical maze of amazing roads for runners, but was full of natural beauty.
Days were spent acclimatizing to the altitude and clicking away the natural beauty of this hill town.
The day of reckoning arrived, and I was the first of the block and in lead for the 1st 5 kilometers.
The Indian Army guys took over, and took the lead.
I trudged up hills, and made up lost ground brought about by the fatigue from going out too fast.
I made up 4 spots in the last 4 kilometers, to end the the race as a happy man in 5th place.
The trip that started with a photographic blessing ended on a true runner's high.
