This iReport is part of an assignment:
Mantas of Fesdhoo Lagoon
At night, dive boats line up in Fesdhoo Lagoon (Ari Atoll, Maldives) and shine powerful spotlights into the water to lure in swarms of plankton, inviting manta rays to feed as divers watch close by.
They slip in and out of the darkness, swooping in like winged wraiths as they slice into the clouds of plankton. They emerge like apparitions and linger for a few moments in front of their awestruck spectators, leaving them transfixed with a haunting yet graceful display of underwater ballet.
