    Ryan Pitylak: Texas Maverick

Ryan Pitylak has come a long way since his undergraduate days. Almost a decade ago he was busted during his time as an undergraduate student at the University of Texas for being one of the most prolific “spam artists” to flood an inbox (or million). A few years after a legal onslaught that ended in a $1 million settlement with the state of Texas, which included a few years of more healthy working experience, he found himself back at UT Austin. This time around he was in an MBA classroom, considering how he could put his with various skill sets and experience to use. Pitylak had been performing marketing consulting work on his own, but knew that in order to achieve larger scale he would need to build a legitimate company and brand. With his ties, as well the ties of his colleagues and future partners, he had access to the resources required to bootstrap a business.

This idea came to life three and a half years ago, when he started the Unique Influence, a digital marketing consulting firm base in Austin. In UI, Pitylak has forged a marriage of education and experience. Unique Influence differs from its competitors with its extreme focus on direct response in areas where it can drive predictable results and ROI. Digital marketing is constantly evolving, and Ryan states that his company stays on the cutting edge of what you can and can’t do in the world of marketing. Unique Influence also continuously seeks out new and more profitable channels for its clients. The company’s real bread and butter is their Facebook advertising, a field that is extremely large and still growing. He told me that social advertising in general is interesting and exciting place, and that he is currently focused is on growing his business and working with larger and larger brands.

With some colorful experiences behind him, he has a very unique perspective on developing and exploring exciting new channels of business. He said that he has been able to step back and think about problems from the perspective of a Chief Marketing Officer, and consider where they would ultimately want to spend their money. Through extensive and thoughtful testing, and paying very close attention to his surrounding community, Pitylak has been in the business of ensuring that his clients get direct responses and the very best returns on investment.

Ryan wants to crystallize the difference between good marketing and bad marketing, be consistent with his clients’ brand goals, and run a business that is very compelling to people. He wants to stand at the front of a company that is a steward of its clients’ advertising dollars while serving an ecosystem of people that are both responsible and savvy. Pitylak has written a highly unorthodox story of Texas success through persistence, a knack for capitalizing on opportunities, and an ability to serve as a source of vision and energy for those around him.
