    Standing Still in London

Central London around famous landmarks like Trafalgar Square, the house of parliament and Whitehall ground to a halt as thousands of black cabs and their drivers (cabbies) brought the city to a standstill. The famous London Black Cab fleet was used as a vehicle of protest today by their drivers protesting against new technology company ‘Uber’ taking away their business illegally.

The cabbies say ‘Uber’ uses their mobile app to work out the cost of rides using GPS and that this is tantamount to a taxi meter, which in London only black cabs are legally entitled to use. And, as the photographs show, much of the cabbies anger is aimed at Transport for London (TFL) who they claim should be banning the use of this technology.

Visitor to London carried on as usual but did seem to find this very British of protests just a little bit odd!
