    Words from the author:

“I have always had a passion for writing. As I wrote this story, I realized we always try to do more for our children than what our parents could do for us. Rightfully so, we want to make our children happy. While raising our kids, we tend to forget about teaching  the importance of giving and helping others in need. Whether it be quality time spent or going the extra mile to help someone, it truly makes a difference not only to them, but to ourselves.

Today, we often see many children expecting and thinking about things that they could get for themselves. I felt that this could be the opportunity to change the general way of thinking by spreading the important message about giving. This was my inspiration for writing The Lucky Nickel.”

DoNascimento is an active member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). In 2008, she had her first poetry publication titled, “All in Your Mind” by the International Library of Poetry (now Lulu) as a compilation.

In 2014, her official author tour was announced in the Dallas Morning News. Her first Tour was located at Southlake, Barnes and Noble with sales that threw the ball out of the park. In 2008, DoNascimento was featured in the Coppell Gazette article “Whispers Makes Noise” and in 2010, she was featured in advertisement for Our Land and Waters Foundation.

    About the Story:

This heart-warming picture/lesson book (ages 4 - 6) is about a child who comes from a family with limited resources. The child plants a special nickel his father gave him and to his surprise, a tree flourishes with nickels! With this blessing, the boy plans to buy something big for himself but makes a different decision along the way when he finds himself running into others in need.

"Many ask what the ultimate ‘take away’ message of my book is... and in summary, it is simple:

"Giving," making a difference in someone's life..."
