    San Diego Remembers Tony Gwynn

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Chris Morrow visited Petco Park in San Diego, California, Tuesday morning, where fans of baseball legend Tony Gwynn started a makeshift memorial beneath his statue. Gwynn, who played his entire career with the San Diego Padres, died Monday after a battle with mouth cancer.

Morrow said she bumped into Gwynn a handful of times around town at charity events, the grocery store and at the beach. “I love the way Tony Gwynn embraced San Diego and kept his 20 year career in my town. With sports figures going from team to team to chase a dollar, Gwynn was a real role model for children,” she said.

The baseball legend, 54, died yesterday from a battle with cancer. Tony Gwynn was one of the greatest hitters in the MLB and made San Diego his home. Gwynn played for the San Diego Padres his entire 20 year career and will be immortalized as 'Mr. Padre.'
