Hospital Makes History --- Oldest IVF Mum in Africa.

    HOSPITAL MAKES HISTORY
St. Ives Specialist Hospital recorded history when it delivered a 60-year old woman, Mrs. Christie Omolara Orurhe, of a baby through in vitro fertilization on Monday 16th June 2014, thus becoming the oldest IVF mother in Africa.
The IVF Unit of the hospital succeeded in aiding the conception and delivery of the baby, which has now equaled UK's record of IVF age delivery.
The mother and child are in good health.

Leading a team of medical professionals to carry out the process successfully- is the Chief Medical Director of St. Ives Special Hospital, Dr. Tunde Okewale, who expressed his joy at the feat.
According to Dr. Okewale, physical condition of the mother, and not just age, is the major factor that determines the success or otherwise of conception and delivery through in vitro fertilization.
"We treated only after strict medical check of couples. For us, age is not important in our decision to take her on. What was important was the physical condition of the mother. Older women generally make better parents in our experience," Okewale said.
He educated further that there is no age limit for fertility treatment under the law. According to him, the issue of fertility treatment is dependent on the clinical judgement of the fertility doctor and his ethical team. "We took into account the welfare of the client including health and ability of the couples to provide for the need of the child.”
The team that delivered of Mrs. Irurhe comprised of Dr. Maria Afadapa, Dr. Alozie Ndubuka, Dr Ekaidem, Dr Lawrence Oshiogwe, Mrs Adenike Oshun, Mrs. Onigbinde Kudirat and other staff of St. Ives Specialist Hospital.
Rajo Deri lohan, an Indian, is the oldest woman to be delivered of a baby through IVF in November 2008 when she was 69 years old.
