I am dyslexic, my mother and her twin sister are too, my 14 old my son is also dyslexic. I knew I was dyslexic early in my life, I had my mother's nature gift, we have the nature gift of art and drawing, l also put two and two together and when she told me she was testing for dyslexia back in 1950 by the NYC-BOE, she and I both knew I had gotten not only the gift of art but dyslexia too. I wasnt going to have children knowing I would pass on the gene of dyslexia but I was 36 years old and got pregnant and hoped by now public education would know about dyslexia. In 2004 my dyslexic son started Kindergarten and thus started my advocacy of bringing awareness to NYC schools and on Staten Island where are live. The Staten Island Advance 2010 has a story on my work on Staten Island public schools...But more need to be shared, the success I had will my son and the failure of my other because the way teachers write IEP. Both my sons are in middle school the oldest goes to HS next year with honors. I wish to share how we did that.
