    Red sprites and lightning show in north Texas

     
    As a line of storms moved across north Texas last evening the skies lit up with an amazing form of High Altitude lighting called sprites. Sprites are electrical discharges produced from the tops of thunderstorms when very strong positive bolts of lightning occur below.
    If you're viewing angle is just right you can see them dance across the sky above these storms. they're red because the excite the gasses of the atmosphere about 50 miles above the lighting storm the created them.
