Israelis view Syrian war from Golan Heights

According to the UK newspaper The Telegraph, Mohammed Qaraqara, an Israeli-Arab from Israel’s Galilee region, was killed yesterday by a mortar or IED as he was travelling with his father, a defence ministry contractor, in a tanker carrying water at the time. Whether the death was the result of government or rebel action was unknown.

In this photo taken May 17, 2014 - Israelis view Syrian army attacks on rebel-held town of Kunetra just across from the Golan Heights. In the foreground, former Syrian military position seized in 1967 ("Six Day") war. Prior to its capture, the emplacement routinely shelled Israeli kibbutz below.

Aware of the possibility of a cross-border intrusion, Israel maintains a tank brigade just below the Golan Heights.
