This iReport is part of an assignment:
World Cup 2014
THE NIGERIA, BOSNIA 2014 WORLD CUP MATCH
However, I must quickly add that it was a lucky win. A lucky win not because the Bosnia had a legitimate goal disallowed but because our defense tactic gives too much room for the Bosnians to operate (which teams with better organized attacks would exploit). Our defense didn't kick in until the Bosnians were in our final third. We allowed them too much time to express themselves whenever they had the ball. Almost every time the Bosnians attacked, they ENDED their attack with shots on goal. Thank God we had an Enyeama in goal. And a Mikel that, well hmm, manage to screened the back line effectively. Mind you, he now has a yellow card.
Our defense should rather start from the guy that loses possession of the ball. Our players should learn to quickly fight for the ball. They should learn to close up spaces. They should learn to force opponent to make mistakes. Only Emenike did that against Emir Spahic. And that was while he, Emenike, was charging on goal NOT while we were defending. This should be looked into else we might also be beaten with that Messi 91minute goal against Iran.
All in all, the game was a good one. Our forward play was encouraging. We were not timid going upfront. Bar this observation I made, our defense wasn't bad either. Bottom line sha, we must try and smother opponents attack-play and not wait till they play it wide or watch Enyeama make some excellent saves.
Good luck to the Super Eagle.
God bless Nigeria.
