From Calypso Aerobics to Zumba, meet the original creator of Soca Aerobics and Soquatics, Soca in De Water

Brian Walker lived as he died. His spirit of Dance, his trans formative effervescence, his love of his Trinidad and Tobago culture was unbridled.

In his last hours, after calling his doctors to confirm that his breathing was tightening, and saying without reservation, "my systems are shutting down" he asked for a taste of sugar cane. He had to taste the sweetness of his homeland once more.

Moments later, we were watching Jeopardy, and Alex Trebek asked a question, to which Brian shared a response, as if it were the normal routine and everyday life goes on forever.

No more than five minutes later, he asked for his pillow to be adjusted, so he could breathe better, and with a jolt of his head, he was gone. No fanfare, no belabored heaves, no deliberation. He simply took a leap, to the music of his internal clock, and pirouetted into eternity.

Friday, March 6, 1998 marks the date of death of Brian Gabriel Walker.

In the dash, February 11 1951 - March 6 1998, he filled the lives, of family, loved ones, friends, and especially the love of culture of his homeland Trinidad and Tobago with overwhelming passion, energy and joie de vivre.

In remembering Brian, I share his treasured legacy.

His love of Dance was infectious and unstoppable. In honor of his work in the area of Calypso Aerobics, coined by many as Soca Aerobics, here is the story as told by him and his colleagues in this video.

Even the nomenclature "Soquatics" Soca in De Water was an idea he conceived while dancing to the beat of Caribbean music in the water.

Captured on Youtube are several video clips shared by his devoted friend DC Chutney, Tony. http://youtu.be/i-lISaSGdOE
