After the Germany-USA World Cup soccer game, fans roamed and paraded their vehicles at the famous downtown street of West Berlin, the Kurfürstendamm, honking their car horns, waving flags, blowing their plastic vuvucelas, and some even lighting firecrackers, fireworks, and smoke flares. The police blocked the street while shoppers and pedestrians took refuge in department stores and restaurants to escape the loud noise and commotion. This ritual, as known as an Autokorso, occurs after each important soccer game and is tolerated by the city fathers who gives great understanding to the sport and the crazy fan hysteria. There is police presence at all times to ensure that everything remains peaceful, safe and under control.
