This iReport is part of an assignment:
Final presidential debate |
Religious Extremism by Americans
I was going to make this iReport a video comment - but I felt that text was the only way to go on this subject. This is only to make clear my opinion and that video commenting sometimes allows misinterpretation of intent.
SEE VIDEO LINK HERE: http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-115836
Injection of religion into a person's character is a biased approach to defaming not only them - but the entire religion.
Subjects like this only prove to inflame a person's ignorance and lack of knowledge concerning that individual's religion and culture. So what IF Senator Obama was an Arab (other than the fact that if he WAS he couldn't run for President). Many Christian Arabs exist in the Middle East (the whole world for that matter) and - if we are paying attention to the news - are being killed for it this very second.
As Americans we tie Arabs to violence and terrorism due to media saturation and a lack of personal investigation into a culture. Jesus Christ himself is an Arab due only to the fact that he was raised in the middle east and most likely spoke an Arabic dialect himself. MANY traditions spoke of in the Bible are Arab traditions that are still in practice today - EVEN in the United Stated by CHRISTIANS. However many Christians today would argue this fact due only to their ignorance.
RELIGIOUS EXTREMISM is the ONLY thing that makes poor marks upon man's own understanding of a religion and man's views of it. It creates a narrow-minded perspective of a people's way of life due to the poor choices of only a few people that catch the attention of the entire world.
Adolf Hitler was raised as a Catholic and was a self-proclaimed Christian as was Timothy McVeigh.
Malcolm X was Islamic as was Muhammed Ali and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. President Eisnehower was a Jehovah's Witness. President Nixon was a Quaker. Presidents Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Andrew Johnson had NO claimed religion of any kind.
So as we can see from the above examples - Religion has NO value for judgement of character. The ONLY thing that makes valid what a person believes and practices are his own personal habits and choices. People really need to take a look at what they are about to say before they group an entire culture together and brand them as other than 'worthy' of respect like anyone else.
