Ronald McDonald at the Voestalpine „Steel-World“, Linz, Austria, June 2014
There have been several premiers at the Voestalpine “Steel-World”, Linz, a few days ago: McDonalds called for the first charity “fairytale-night” in favour of the Ronald McDonald house charities (Ronald McDonald Kinderhilfe). The main event of the evening was an auction with a multitude of donated auction pieces to raise money for the Ronald McDonald foundation mantra “closeness helps healing” (http://www.naehehilftheilen.at). With the raised money, the foundation creates options for parents to stay close to their seriously ill children.
Second premier: For the first time, such a charity-auction took place “regionally”, hosted by the Upper Austrian McDonalds licensee Marcus Zenker. And that’s how Ronald McDonald “Kinderhilfe” president Sonja Klima and Marcus Zenker were able to welcome around 250 guests. As special guests, even the US licensees Mr. & Ms. Don Armstrong (Portland, Oregon), and Hans Hahne and Petra Habig (Bremen) from Germany have travelled there. Also the sponsors and supporters are impressive: Coca Cola, Voestalpine, the Lions Club and 20 more companies and institutions.
Third premier: For the first time, as a new supporters group for the Ronald McDonald foundation: the car race series Histo Cup together with the companies VICEM Mediasolutions (Salzburg) and Storz Medienfabrik (Germany) who also work together with Histo Cup. As debut gift, the new supporter group contributed a very special auction piece for the charity auction, namely a co-drive in a historic BMW. Lo and behold: This co-drive achieved a hammer price which is eleven times higher than the original price. And this with strong competition of other auctioned donations (tickets for the coming Formula 1 Grand Prix in Spielberg, works of artist Hermann Angeli, Lois Wagner and Manfred Kielnhofer, Backstage passages for a concert of the Spider Murphy Gang in Linz and a nimble “uCarver”: Vehicle-innovation of the Austrian company e-volution (Styria). At the end, Walter Freller, art dealer and gallery owner from Upper Austria, was able to raise an overall donation sum of EUR 33,000 for “closeness helps healing”.
Kurt Ploier, country manager of the TIP Logistik/HNA Group China, and his wife were happy about this amazing outcome. Ploier, who holds the race record and the second place with his Turmöl Racing Team at the 99(!) hours race Berlin in 2011, is also a successful racing driver in the Histo Cup series. Ploier skipped the racing weekend at the German Hockenheimring, which started simultaneously with the charity auction in Linz because he wanted to support the matter of the Ronald McDonald Kinderhilfe and, representative for the whole Histo Cup community, displayed his racing car at the Voestalpine “Steel-World”.
Everyone enjoyed the nice framework program: with the Uzbek-Russian soprano singer Natalia Ushakova, the 7 “dwarfs” of the musical-school Schuppdi Starwalk, Chelsea, attendant of the “The Voice Kids in Switzerland, and anchorman Florian Danner (Puls 4).
Upper Austrian McDonald licensee Marcus Zenker (who is incidentally advisor of the VICEM/Histo Cup organization, see: http://www.vicem-mediasolutions.eu/en/histo-cup-2014-en.html, summed the event up as follows: “In the name of the Ronald McDonald Kinderhilfe and the supported families, I want to thank every sponsor, donor and contributor from the bottom of my hear for this unique evening.”
