    Your 'Aha' weight-loss moments

    More from Musique913

Lost all this weight, but gained health, just the same.

I started my weight loss journey after losing both of my parents, far too young. They both had major issues--My dad had circulation and heart problems, and was a borderline diabetic, my mother had a massive heart attack at 46 and a triple bypass.

After my mother died, it was time for me to do something about my weight. I was 282 pounds. I was an uncontrolled type two diabetic with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, kidney issues, and pain in my body when I tried to move at all. I was sick as a dog. I took Lantus, Byetta, glyburide and metformin for my diabetes and it wouldn't get in control. My doctor suggested gastric bypass as a way to get it controlled, but I didn't want to do that at all. I wanted to do it on my own.

I was lucky enough to hear my now coach on a radio program talking about what he did. I researched the plan he did a lot because I was sure that I didn't want to do anything packaged. I had done it before, and hated it..

This guy I met was different, though. I was ready, and I took the first step and signed up for Take Shape for Life.

Flash forward to now. I now weight 136 pounds. I started losing weight in January of 2013. I was off my insulin in three weeks. As of last week, I was taken off my last medication. I was on so much medication, but now I'm so healthy I don't have to take it! No more insulins, cholesterol meds, protectors for my heart, blood pressure meds. I'm all normal.

That alone would be a miracle to me. The only regret I have is that I wasn't able to find this plan before my mother passed away. I could have saved her from her second big heart attack by helping getting her blood sugars under control. While this plan may not work the same for everyone, I can just tell you that life has changed for me.

My doctor told me that I was a sign of dedication and what someone can do when they are determined.

I did this while earning my Bachelor's degree in school, right after losing my mother and having to deal with all the estate issues.

If I can do it, so can you!! I never thought I'd wind up being a certified health coach, but that is what my life has turned into.

    Pretty awesome, I think.
