Your 'Aha' weight-loss moments
It Took 2 "Aha's" To Tango!
I had two "Aha" moments. My first "Aha" moment happened after I had my second baby when my weight went up to 250lbs. A bootcamp was presented to my Moms Group, it was 6 weeks and I thought "Hey…6 weeks, I will be fit and fabulous after 6 weeks of bootcamp. " Little did I know that after 6 weeks of 2 days a week, 30 minute sessions I was NOT fit and fabulous. I definitely took a good step in the right direction but it dawned on me that "Oh…you have to do this consistently in order to lose weight and be healthy." I should have known that but I had the worst eating habits and exercise wasn't even part of my vocabulary before I signed up for bootcamp. I signed up for another 6 weeks, and then another 6 weeks and then another fitness program, called Stroller Strides, came my way that worked perfect for me as a mom with a toddler and he could join me in his stroller while I worked out.
My 2nd "Aha" moment happened when I went to see my doctor and I hadn't lost much of the baby weight I had gained with my 2nd pregnancy. He asked me what I needed to do to lose more weight and I gave a whole bunch of different answers until he said "it's your food, you need to eat healthier." In that moment I realized I was working SO hard in my workouts and wasn't getting the results I could be getting because I wasn't eating healthy. I immediately turned to my bootcamp trainer and my stroller strides instructor for help. They gave me tips, ideas, looked at my food journal and supported me from day one. It was scary to admit I had a problem but I'm glad I reached out for help. Since then I have lost 71lbs. and have managed to keep it off. I'm a different person now than I was then. I look back at that girl who was sad, lonely, struggling to do some of the simplest of tasks like bending over to tie her shoe and can be grateful for that experience. I know how it feels and can sympathize with others who are going through the same thing. I discovered the world of at home fitness DVDs and workout consistently 6 days a week and eat healthy the majority of the time…I'm not perfect but I am healthier. I am also a Fitness Coach and I help other people lose weight and get healthy. I love being able to pay it forward, it keeps me accountable for life.
