More Fireworks Shots from Astoria Park in Queens, New York City on June 30, 2014
I uploaded just two photos last night and to be honest they were 'meh' photos. I just wanted to get the story out there without spending too much time editing and making the photos look 'PhotoShopped' -- by using PhotoShop on them.
More of these and other photos I've taken can be found on my Flickr photostream at https://www.flickr.com/photos/johnthiel/
In the morning, there was an e-mail from CNN asking me about the photos and I responded right away with several more photos which attempted to include here, and which are similarly unedited, not even cropped, straight from the camera.
Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties with CNN's iReport site, not all of the photos I attempted to upload--about ten--made it, including the best shots I really wanted to show you. (Again, you can see these on Flickr at the address above.} Nor am I able to add the photos later without creating an entirely new report. I can edit anything but I can't add or subtract photos or video to a report that already exists. Someone at CNN needs to work on that.
I would write a long 'how to,' and I may still do it before the main event of Fourth of July, but for right now I just want to share some images and let you know that just about anyone could take similarly good shots with any camera capable of manual settings and something to hold the camera steady, such as a tripod.
If you want a whole lesson, I recommend you look up Digital Photography School which provides easy to understand, professional level photography lessons for free.
I shot these with a Canon T4i using an EF-S 18-135mm STM lens (a kit lens) and a cheap tripod I received for free years ago.
