    Woodpecker Parenting in SoCal Desert

Our new baby Woodpecker has been learning from his parents. He/she stays very close to the parents.  We have wind most days & this was a particularly windy day for the little guy to hang out.  You can hear the wind blowing in the video.  I took some video & photos soon after he arrived in the old tree this week. He arrived first with a lot of noise, closely followed by the parent.
We think they are Beautiful little birds. Note the Very Cool Hairdo!

P.S. now that I re-read above, I remember that the tree is naked because it was standing next to a big Palm Tree that was hit by lightning & burned down (Sounded like a BOMB).  The Eucalyptus slowly lost all her leaves & they never came back (although she now has a lovely bush growing around the base).  It is a favorite hang-out place for the local birds of every size, including a large OWL at night.
